Prerequisites

Age: The minimum age is 14 for the PADI Open Water Diver Course. (Contact us about a Junior Open Water Course)

Medical History: All Divers are required to complete an RSTC Medical Form. If you answer YES to any of the questions on the form, as a precaution you will need to get signed off from a Doctor to say you are fit to dive.

Swimming: You need to demonstrate you are comfortable in the water. There is also a 200m swim or 300m swim to complete but there is no time limit and you may use any stroke. (This sounds worse than it is... You will be fine!)

Equipment: As a minimum we require you have your own mask and snorkel for the course. We then provide all of the rest of the gear for the course that you will need this includes; Wetsuit (7mm), Scuba Diving Fins, Weight Belt, Boots, Safety Sausage, BCD, Regulators, Computer. While we provide this gear for you, we do strongly recommend having your own gear so you are more comfortable. We stock a wide range of scuba gear in store and your instructor can help you choose the best gear for your diving needs.

Course Structure

Your online theory must be completed independently in our digital classroom before you arrive for your first pool session. This can even be completed on your smart phone. We also have computers available in store to complete the online learning if you need. If you have any problems or need help with this, we are always on the end of the phone.

Day 1 & 2 : Pool Sessions. Please meet us at the shop at 9am on day 1, we will drive you in our shop vans to the local pool. When we head to the pool we will be practicing skills under the guidance of one of our experienced instructors. It is a really fun and relaxed environment with plenty of time to perfect the skills. Bring togs, towel and lunch with you.

Day 3 & 4: Shore dive & Boat dive. We spend 2x days diving in our amazing training sites around the Bay of Islands. We again practice the skills from the pool and build your confidence with diving in the ocean. The sites we explore are full of fish life, sponges and sometimes if we are lucky we see dolphins and whales in the bay.  Again, bring your towel, lunch and a jacket.
